End of February

Two months have gone by so fast and that is 1/6 of the year 2007. Can't believe tomorrow will be the first day of March. I know I need some changes in my life and tomorrow will be just perfect for me to have a fresh start.

Recycle

I had a bunch of bottles and cans in my trunk for many days. I tried to recycle them but the recycle center closes early at 4:30pm. Finally, I got the chance to go before heading to school yesterday. After separating bottles and cans into those big bins, the guy weighted them and said, "the total is $10.07." Wow...I didn't know these "trash" would worth ten dollars.
90 DAYS: That's how long it takes a recycled aluminum can to make it back on the shelf as something useful.
80-100 YEARS: That's the lifespan of an aluminum can that gets tossed into a landfill instead of a recycling bin.
700 YEARS: Toss a plastic bottle in the trash and that's about how long it will sit in a landfill taking up space and refusing to degrade.
1 MILLION YEARS: Put a glass bottle in a landfill and that's how long it'll sit there doing nothing. Recycle it and it can live forever.
Isn't it interesting that we humans have the same lifespan as aluminum cans?! Actually it is easy to recycle and it saves natural resources, saves energy, and saves money. I think we all can make this tiny effort to take care of the earth God has created.

This is a great website that tells you why, what, and where to recycle.

Happy Chinese New Year

Didn't feel like Chinese New Year at all till I stepped into the church on Sunday night. We had our second annual Chinese New Year Celebration. There were red lanterns hanging from the ceiling, traditional music and songs for Chinese New Year, and most of us wore the Chinese clothes/dresses. The frustrating part about it is that the Chinese dress I wore last year didn't fit anymore this time. I tried to squeeze myself in the dress and I think I looked like a sausage...haha. I don't think I would be able to sit down in that dress, so I borrowed my mom's vast instead.

What did we do to celebrate?? FOODS!!! Lots of FOODS!! It's just so exciting to see people bringing all kinds of dishes. After the dinner, we had a program of folk dances, live music performances, and giving out red envelopes.

Speaking of red envelopes, someone at work gave me "two" red envelopes today to wish me happy Chinese New Year. Two?! She said one is from her and the other from her husband, but I don't even know her husband at all! I was so surprised and she said that it's a tradition to give out two envelopes if the couple is together. She is Cantonese, maybe it is the tradition from Hong Kong?!

2007 is the year of pig. My goal is to keep eating and eating and eating....j/k. =)

Pak & Geoff's Wedding

Congratulations to Pak & Geoff. It was a sweet wedding and fun reception. Good to see people who I have not seen for a long time. The church is beautiful with the long aisle that I really like. It's an once in a lifetime moment for the bride to walk down the aisle, that's why I like the long aisle. =)

The reception was at Lawry's The Prime Rib. The foods are pretty good, from appetizers to the dessert. Pak and Geoff are very good at dancing. I believe that everyone had fun that afternoon. As they begin their journey down the road of life together, may God bless their marriage and deepen their love for each other all the days of their lives. =)

My Valentine's Day

Surprise in the morning: Red roses. Got tricked by my mom and Janice. It's a long story but if you can read Chinese, you can read it on Janice's blog. It is indeed a very romantic surprise! I love those beautiful roses. There are 17 roses...I've been thinking about the meaning behind the number "17." The answer turned out to be easy and simple...should be 18 (one and half dozens) but the flower shop miscounted.

Dinner: Shabu Shabu House Restaurant in Little Tokyo. Alright, I have to make a confession: I went to the school that day and even parked my car in the parking lot on campus...but...but...but I didn't go to the class. =P Enjoyed the shabu shabu very much and also had some Japanese fried octopus balls. Yum!

First Dessert: Pinkberry frozen yogurt in West Hollywood. Janice gave the wrong address! It's not the one she went last time. We ordered the original flavor with fresh strawberries & blueberries. The place is too small so we headed to another location in Melrose.
Second Dessert: Pinkberry frozen yogurt in Melrose. We met up with Janice and Will. This time we tried the green tea flavor with oreo cookies & granolas. It is a weird combination. I think original tastes better!

Late Night Snack: Pink's Hotdogs. I think we were crazy. After eating dinner and desserts, we even wanted to have hotdogs! I guess we just couldn't resist the smell of grilled onion and chili. It is just down the block next to Pinkberry so we walked there and the line was long. The crazy part is that we waited one hour and 10 minutes to just order the hotdogs and it was freezing cold. We had Mullholland Drive Dog (10" stretch dog grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, nacho cheese & bacon.) Martha Stewart Dog (10" Stretch dog, relish, onions, baconchopped tomatoes, sauerkraut & sour cream.) and a mild polish dog. The hotdog is really good. Wooo..I am hungry again by thinking about it!

Surprise of the night: Homemade heart-shaped blueberry cake/muffin. Wow...I was really surprised when I opened the box. I like the blueberry muffin at starbucks but this one is definitely way much better! Very sweet...so touched..

Friendship

My Wednesday

Three nights in a row, I had a weird dream again last night. The entire dream was about my friend, a reckless and dangerous driver, giving me a ride in her car. Just like the one in the movie where the car doesn’t stop at the traffic lights and can drive backward without hitting anything. I hope I am able to sleep tonight without having any dream, otherwise I just don’t feel rested when I wake up.

Earlier this week we were talking about how we could fit four cars on the driveway on Wednesday because no parking on our street on Wednesday for street cleaning. When I went to my car this morning, I saw all four cars parked perfectly on the driveway without blocking the sidewalk. That Mini S just looks like a toy car! So cute!

This is my third day of having salad for lunch. Yes, trying to lose some weight and be healthy. It saves money and time to prepare for lunch and good for my body. Salad with greens, tomatoes, roasted almond, cranberries, cheese, and white balsamic dressing. Recently, different people saw me and told me the same thing that my face is a little chubbier. Errr, It is a warning sign and I have to watch out and control my appetite!

Jean
接著走下了很長的樓梯到了一間cabin
看見蟲蟲小白和Kelly

We went to America's Tire for new tires this afternoon. We dropped off my car and went home. When we went to pick up the car, the guy told us that two lug bolts on the front right tire are broken and the car needs to be towed to the other place in Pomona to fix the broken bolts. I know my co-worker broke one bolt when he helped me to change the flat tire and they broke the other one when they tried to take off the spare tire. The guy said that it is not safe to drive the car and we should call AAA and get the car towed.

Crazy.

Thank you Mini S for all the help. =)
and Thanks for the AAA card.

9:30pm. I am ready for bed. It's been a long day for me. Since no late paper will be accepted for today's class, I woke up at 3:30 in the morning to write my paper. It proves AGAIN that I am a procrastinator. Man, it was hard to get up that early when it was still dark and cold, but I did it. I kept working on the paper till 8:00AM and then went to take shower and get ready for work.

I was so anxious that I didn't finish my paper. I tried my best to finish what I needed to do at work as fast as I could and then told my co-workers that I needed a break to do my homework. I know, it sounds weird but they are too nice to me. I shut the door and hid myself for two and half hours to finish up my paper. Then I went back to my desk and started to work again.

I was supposed to leave work at 3 in order to get to class on time. When I walked to my car....NNNNOOOO!!! I got a flat tire AGAIN!!! I can't remember how many times I had flat tires before. Is it because the way I drive?? Or maybe I just need a NEW car. Anyway, I called the roadside assistance and they said I had to wait about one hour....I was thinking in my mind that I can't miss my class and I have to turn in the paper today! But thank God that I found out my flat tire in the parking lot at work, instead of on the freeway. A co-worker came to help me to change the spare tire. Thank God that Will and Janice came back yesterday and they were able to take me to school. So I drove my car back home and they took me to school to drop off my paper. To avoid the traffic, we went to Savoy, the Hainan chicken rice place for dinner. Took some pictures with my cell phone. =)

This is my longest day in 2007. I am emotionally and physically drained from everything but thank God for His protection and grace. Thank you Will and Janice for rescuing me by taking me here and there in your Sydney Mini. Haha =) Good to have you two. Welcome back home!
