Day Six

Today was our last day at Oahu and we decided to rent a car to visit places we wanted to go. The cost of the rental car for just one day exceeded the bus pass we purchased for the past four days. Getting around by bus sure saved us lots of money. The reason for a rental car was to get us to places faster and easier; however, that wasn't exactly the case. In Hawaii, the street signs are not clear and there're many one-way streets. Finding the direction could be a bit difficult without the navigation.

We drove up to the central part of the island passing by Pearl Harbor to Aloha Stadium for some souvenir shopping. Then we continued our road trip toward the north and also passed by Dole Plantation which we visited couple days ago. We were on our mission to North Shore to find the famous shrimp truck for lunch.

Hooray! We made it to the famous shrimp truck, Giovanni's. The truck was under a tree with some picnic tables where people could sit and eat. The menu was very simple: garlic shrimps, spicy shrimps, lemon butter shrimps, and garlic hotdog.
We ordered one garlic shrimps and one lemon butter shrimps. The plate came with two scoops of rice and 12 shrimps. We loved the garlic shrimps! It tasted so good with lots of roasted garlic, no wonder it was their #1 selling flavor.Comparing with the garlic shrimps, lemon butter was just ok, a little plain. After we cleaned our two plates of shrimps, we shared another garlic hotdog.Yup, we were that hungry! The hotdog was just ok too, garlic shrimps is the best. After our shrimps tasting, we went to my favorite shave ice place, Matsumoto's, which was located on the other side of the town. Just as we parked our car, we saw many people eating the shave ice on the benches outside the store. We ordered a large shave ice with red beans and ice cream. We chose the three tropical flavors of guava, passion fruit, and mango. I loved their shave ice!! Very refreshing! We continued driving to the top north to Turtle Bay and along the coast to circle half of the east side of the island. The scenery on the road was absolutely beautiful. We stopped a few places to take pictures and just to enjoy the ocean views and sandy beaches. There's a small island called Chinaman's Hat. We had fun taking some cool photos. This is a Chinese man wearing a hat!
We really enjoyed the half circle island road trip of the day and really glad that we had the opportunity to try the shrimps and shave ice. For dinner tonight, again, we had "ramen" at a Japanese restaurant called "Men Chanko Tei." Yup, we’re ramen lovers! =) We had menchanko, ramen, and oden to conclude our trip at the island of Oahu. Time to pack and we'll see you in Maui.
