Day Five

When it comes to Oahu, there are many typical tourist attractions; one of them being the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC). Before we made our trip out here, Syd made a tentative itinerary on what we'll be doing and so far it has been working out quite well.

After yesterday's long bus ride to the Dole Plantation, we gave it a second thought on how we should go about getting to the PCC today. At the end, we decided to continue using our bus pass and give it another shot.

We woke up early as usual and got to the bus stop around 9:15am. Since there are very few buses going towards that direction, we didn't want to miss the bus. During the bus ride, we noticed almost all the people on this particular bus are locals. It was obvious that only Syd and I are tourists on the bus. I guess for places like Dole Plantation and Polynesian Cultural Center, people either take tour buses, shuttles, or they drive themselves. Nonetheless, we made it to PCC within 1 1/2 hours.

As we got off the bus, we realized the center wasn't even opened yet. And we were the first two visitors of the day. We had to wait for the center to open at 11am so Syd decided to have an apple.

Once we got in the center, we still had to wait for another hour before we can start visiting different tribes. The only place that was open was the gift shop. It was there that we met a really nice staff, not only did he give us discount on the items we bought; he also took out the map and showed us how we should plan our day at the center. He told us that he used to be a guide there and he truly helped us out.

There are six tribes presented at the PCC: Hawaii, Samoa, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Fiji, Tahiti, and Tonga. We went on our days visiting different tribes, watching presentations, learning their cultures, as well as trying out traditional games.

Welcome to the tribe of Hawaii!

Wow, Samoans sure can get up high off the ground!

Syd got to take a photo with our Fiji friend

Watch out! We are ready to hunt!

Afternoon Canoe Show

The package we purchased included Alii Luau at the evening and the popular show, Horizons at night. It was our first experience of a luau and it was a good one. The food was great and the entertainment was excellent. We both had so much fun.

Aloha from Alii Luau!

Our yummy Smoothie

After dinner, we enjoyed a wonderful show with different tribes performing their dances.

As soon as the show ended, we rushed to the bus stop to catch the "LAST" bus going back to Waikiki area. We waited for 30 minutes and were so glad to see the bus as it pulled into the station. Yes, we made it once again. After an hour and a half, we were back in our hotel.

Just another day riding our favorite transportation in Oahu.
